ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Bettendorf is showing signs of evolving slightly from its reputation as a bedroom community in the Quad Cities.
There are several economic development projects in the works.
One of them that isn’t moving as quickly as some hoped or expected is “The Lodge.”
Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher discussed that and more during an appearance on 4 the Record.
Right now, the property that used to be “The Lodge” is nothing more than a prospect. The building’s been demolished and its ready for someone to do something with it.
Gallagher discussed where things stand for that property, how soon he expects to see a deal there and what the likely options are. He also addressed what the biggest obstacle has been.
You have to go to the outskirts of the city to see the Bettplex.
That’s a massive property. This is Bettendorf’s field of dreams based on the notion that if you build it they will come.
Gallagher is confident that they will come and the business model will succeed.
He thinks the chances of the site hosting high school state championships in different sports are small because they are entrenched at their current locations in the center of the state.
Gallagher is not worried about the risk it doesn’t work and that it becomes a lot that wastes away.
