A woman charged in a random killing in upstate New York showed troubling signs for years and as recently as this summer while living in Arizona, according to a Phoenix cousin.
Holly Colino, 31, was arrested Monday in Henrietta, New York, in the shooting death of a woman who was sitting in her pickup truck, according to authorities. She is facing charges of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Megan Dix, a 33-year-old mother, was found dead in her vehicle by her husband on Friday afternoon in Brockport, New York. She was shot in the left side of her head, police said.
Colino approached a second woman on Monday and pointed a gun at her before fleeing to a Holiday Inn, where she was arrested, authorities said. She attempted to escape by slipping out of her handcuffs but was caught just 100 yards away after a few hours, authorities said.
Authorities in Brockport said two guns found in her possession were legally purchased in Arizona, according to a report in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
Darrin Colino, the suspect’s cousin, told The Arizona Republic on Wednesday that the family is in shock after learning about her arrest but had been worried about her mental health for years.
Holly Marie Colino, 31, of Arizona, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, in the shooting death of Megan Dix.

“We know she had problems, but we didn’t think this would happen,” he said. “Something traumatic in her life changed her, I just don’t know what it is.”
Darrin Colino said family members saw some red flags on her blog and YouTube channel.
Holly Colino’s social-media outlets show images and videos of her accusing other women of imitating and hating her. She writes about this in both her blog and on her personal Facebook page.
“I still remember her as a little kid back in New York at my grandmother’s funeral,” Darrin Colino said. “She was wearing a sundress, laughing and giggling.”
Holly Colino lived with Darrin and his family for a few months a couple years back, he said.
She was in Phoenix just a few weeks ago, he said.
Colino had been working for Eagle Force Security as an unarmed security guard as recently as July, according to the woman’s blog.
In her blog, Colino claimed that she was unlawfully terminated and was deducted money from her paycheck for a company phone that went missing on her security shift.
The company did not immediately respond to comment.
During her most recent time in Arizona, Darrin Colino and his family realized that her mental stability was deteriorating, he told The Republic.

Family members, including Darrin Colino and another cousin, found graffiti she wrote on multiple dumpsters and garage doors around their neighborhoods, he said.
Holly Colino was calling other women out for imitating her and went as far as to sign her name at the bottom of the graffiti, he said.
Darrin Colino expressed the sorrow his family is feeling for the victim and her family, adding that he and other relatives also are supporting Holly Colino’s immediate family.
“We’re a good family,” he said. “It has taken a toll on us, especially her brother in New York.”
Holly Colino originally is from the Rochester, New York, area and lived in Brockport from 2011 to 2014.
