WANA (Jun 21) – The Iranian women’s kumite team captured the championship title at the 22nd Asian Karate Championships, while the men’s team finished as runners-up to claim the silver medal.
The Iranian men’s kumite team secured their silver medal following an impressive run to the finals, which included dominant victories over Nepal, Vietnam, and Japan.
In the final showdown, Iran faced Jordan but ultimately lost the matchup 3-0. During the bouts, Saleh Abazari was defeated 3-0 by his Jordanian counterpart, Esmaeil Motamedi lost a closely contested match 5-3, and Mehdi Ashouri dropped his bout 7-0.
The Iranian team’s campaign in the 22nd edition of the Asian Championships concluded with a total haul of 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 5 bronze medals, securing the overall title of Asian runners-up. With this result, the men’s team brought home the Asian silver medal for the “Martyr Komeil Motie-Doost” delegation.
Women’s Team Dominates on the Path to Gold
Meanwhile, the Iranian women’s karate team enjoyed a highly triumphant campaign at the Asian Championships hosted in Bali, Indonesia. On their path to the finals, the national athletes showcased total dominance by defeating Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam one after another to punch their ticket to the final match.
In the critical final showdown, Iran faced powerhouse Japan and secured a decisive 2-0 victory to claim the Asian crown.
During the high-stakes matchups, Hananeh Salehi clinched her victory after a 2-2 draw. Following her, Fatemeh Zahra Saeidabadi secured a commanding 10-2 victory over her Japanese opponent. This stellar performance allowed the Iranian delegation to celebrate its third gold medal of the championships.
