Will Hughes was at forefront of our 1969 celebrations, when Palace won promotion to the top-flight for the first time; Jean-Philippe Mateta kicked off the New Year with a bang, marking 1972’s record-breaking 5-0 win over Manchester United; and Justin Devenny took to the pitch to mark Malcolm Allison’s arrival in 1973, and our adoption of our famous red and blue, and ‘Eagles’ nickname.
Then, captain Marc Guéhi was embraced by the record-breaking crowd at Selhurst celebrating our promotion after the 1979 win over Burnley; Jefferson Lerma showcased the range of sports played in SE25, including cricket in 1981; Ben Chilwell attended one of Status Quo’s iconic Selhurst gigs in 1984; and Ebere Eze celebrated another promotion in 1989 alongside Wright & Bright – and a certain ‘UFO’ Easter egg, for those in the know…
