A study of 2,000 adults found two-thirds of those born after 1996 have 12 deep interactions with friends and family a month – with 64% ‘loving’ these types of talks
Gen Z are the champions of open communication, with a staggering 88% believing it’s crucial to have serious and honest dialogues with others. A study involving 2,000 adults revealed that those born after 1996 engage in 12 profound interactions with friends and family per month, with a significant 64% expressing a fondness for these types of conversations.
The research also highlighted that 33% of Gen Zs are most likely to engage in a deep intergenerational chat with someone outside their age bracket. Top conversation topics include history and how things used to be, as well as food and family traditions.
Some of the key benefits of conversing with people from other generations include strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories (42%), and gaining more rounded perspectives on big decisions (41%).
Almost four in 10 of Gen Z also find solace in gaining advice from other age groups during challenging times.
The research was commissioned by Uber Eats. A spokesperson for the food delivery app said: “One of the most heartwarming things we see is how mealtimes can bring different generations together.
“Grandparents sharing their favourite dishes, parents teaching kids how they ate when they were young themselves – these small, everyday moments help preserve family traditions and create new ones.”
Uber Eats is encouraging Brits to celebrate Songkran – the Thai New Year – by introducing Songkran Supper Clubs. The deal from Rosa’s Thai includes a four-person meal for the price of two, complete with a set of specially designed porcelain spoons, each embossed with thoughtful conversation starters.
The study further discovered that 82% of all respondents believe people converse less in person today and more online, leading to fewer ‘meaningful’ connections.
However, when they do engage in these more ‘meaningful’ chats, the top locations were found to be around the dinner table (27%), in tranquil restaurants (23%) or at a friend’s kitchen table (21%).
Just over half say they’re also likely to delve into deeper conversations when food is part of the equation, according to data from OnePoll.com.
The Songkran Supper Club is available on Uber Eats for people of various generations to come together and connect – possibly for the first time – over food.
