The Odyssey: IMAX Melbourne voids all third-party ticket sales

A scalper’s bid to profit off the success of the Odyssey has been thwarted, with IMAX cancelling tickets listed for sale on Facebook.

IMAX Melbourne has discovered unauthorised ticket resale listings for Christopher Nolan’s smash release The Odyssey, and has made the decision to cancel all tickets sold on third-party websites.

A joke was made on Reddit this week that Melbourne IMAX “has outsourced ticket sales to a fella on FB,” alongside an image showcasing the reseller’s Facebook post of the ticket options.

Among the around 100 ticket options for September were groups of six, four and two seats together, and an astonishing 88 seats for the Monday 14 September screening at 1.50pm.

The IMAX in Melbourne is the only cinema in the Southern Hemisphere to show the Odyssey on IMAX 70mm film, with reports of cinema fans flying from Europe to see the film which stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Anne Hathaway.

Tickets for screens are up to $70.

Following the Reddit post, IMAX Melbourne posted on Instagram saying tickets purchased from a third-party are not valid, have been cancelled, and are considered fake.

“All tickets sold on third-party websites have been cancelled or are fake tickets and are not valid for any session,” they wrote.

“Why was it easier to get Eras tour tickets than it was to get tickets to this movie?”, one commenter said.

IMAX Melbourne describes The Odyssey screenings as “special events and no discounted ticket vouchers will be valid for these sessions.”

The cinema said all sessions are sold out until September 23 with more than 88,000 tickets sold across the season, generating more than $3.95m in gross box office.
