Minted in November 2023, the Atlantic Salmon 50p is now the rarest in circulation – with only 200,000 created.
Depicting the fish on the back of a portrait of King Charles, the coin knocked the highly collectable 2009 Kew Gardens 50p of the top spot for the first time.
Now a Bury resident has sold not one – but two – of the “rare find for collectors” on eBay.
Both listings asked for £125.51 for the coin – over 250 times the original value – and making the seller a total of £251.02.
Delivery was listed as costing £7.75 and being delivered in three days.
The description reads: “This 2023 Atlantic Salmon 50p Fifty Pence Coin is a rare find for collectors.

Between June and December, the coin saw a major increase in its value as its rarity became more well-known amongst coin collectors.
And the prices continue to rise as collectors are becoming less willing to part with their historic coin.
The 50p is the most collectable coin and has seen more than 100 different designs appear on its reverse (tails) since its introduction.
