Economics (Night Of Thunder), the winner of last year’s Irish Champion Stakes, has been ruled out of the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot after pulling a muscle, according to a report by the Racing Post on Tuesday.
Trained by William Haggas, Economics went unbeaten in his first four starts as a three-year-old, culminating with his maiden top-level victory at Leopardstown, before signing off with a below-par effort when sixth in the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot in October.
His return to action at Royal Ascot had been eagerly anticipated, but that is now set to be delayed in the short term by the setback which Haggas described as “no big deal”.
In the absence of Economics, Los Angeles is now no bigger than 11/4 at the head of the ante-post betting for the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, with his closest pursuer in last month’s G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, Anmaat, next best at a general 4/1.
