Coinbase and Moov bring stablecoin to over 1,000 community banks

JAKARTA – Coinbase and payment infrastructure provider Moov will bring stablecoin services to Moov’s customer base, which includes over 1,000 community banks and credit unions in the United States (US).

According to Coinbase on Thursday (10/9), the collaboration includes stablecoin payment acceptance, settlement, and real-time funding.

Moov will integrate Coinbase’s stablecoin payment infrastructure into its existing payment platform, eliminating the need for financial institutions to build separate digital asset systems to offer stablecoin-based services to customers.

The integration will use Custodial Wallet accounts from the Coinbase Developer Platform for fund storage and the Payments API to manage stablecoin movement.

Planned services include consumer stablecoin payments, merchant payment acceptance, merchant settlement, and fund disbursement.

For business and merchant-related payments, Moov will also use Coinbase’s fully disclosed custodial accounts.

Coinbase will provide regulated digital asset infrastructure, while Moov will connect these services with the payment systems already used by financial institutions.

Moov currently provides payment infrastructure to over 1,000 community banks and credit unions in the US, connecting them to card acceptance and issuance services and real-time payment rails.

Quoted from The Block, the integration allows banks and credit unions to offer stablecoin services through their existing systems without building crypto infrastructure from scratch.

Coinbase Vice Chair and Head of Corporate Affairs, Ryan VanGrack, stated that community banks and credit unions have seen their customers use digital assets for years.

“Through the partnership with Moov, Coinbase is bringing the regulated infrastructure they need to offer these services directly, embedded within the systems they already use,” said VanGrack, in Coinbase’s official statement on Thursday (10/9).

Meanwhile, Moov CEO and Co-Founder, Wade Arnold, said community bank business customers are increasingly being asked to accept stablecoins, but currently often have to use providers outside their primary banks.

“We are building this so the answer comes from their primary financial institutions. The next one is even bigger: funding that doesn’t stop on weekends or holidays, because the rails never close,” Arnold said.

The company currently supports instant payments through networks such as RTP (Real-Time Payments) and FedNow. Moov documentation states that these networks can process real-time bank transfers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Citizens Bank of Edmond Chairman, President, and CEO, Jill Castilla, also provided a perspective from the community bank side in the same official statement.

“Citizens Bank of Edmond has spent 125 years listening to Main Street businesses. Community banks like ours innovate by solving problems we hear directly from customers. Today, our small business customers are looking for ways to lower interchange costs and receive payments faster,” Castilla said.

The Coinbase and Moov collaboration emerges as financial institutions increasingly explore stablecoins for payments and settlement.

IDNFinancials reported on September 7, 2026, that institutional stablecoin adoption continues to grow, while the need for bank infrastructure, local payment systems, foreign exchange, and compliance increases with growing volume.

An EY-Parthenon survey cited in the report showed that 13% of financial institutions and companies have used stablecoins, while 80% of companies that have not yet used them are exploring the technology.

On September 2, 2026, IDNFinancials also reported that 21 global financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citi, and Deutsche Bank, plan to form a company to issue dollar-backed stablecoins by 2027.

Coinbase is a US-based digital asset exchange that also provides custodial infrastructure, stablecoins, payments, and settlement for institutions through the Coinbase Developer Platform and other company services.
