Julia Garner started her Emmys festivities at a pre-ceremony dinner last night, where she dressed in a casual yet chic navy top and dark pants. Now, she’s bringing out an timeless red carpet look for tonight’s ceremony.
The actress, who is a presenter, stepped out in a shimmering silver dress, accessorizing with silver earrings. The gown combined with her platinum pixie haircut channeled Hollywood’s Golden Age.
During her pre-Emmys party appearance, Garner was photographed in deep conversation with The Shards star Kaia Gerber.
Garner is ELLE’s October cover star. She spoke with us about her upcoming Netflix series The Altruists, in which she plays Sam Altman’s business partner Caroline Ellison.
“It was the hardest job I’ve ever done,” Garner said. Given her history of disappearing into her characters, “I wanted to see how far I could go,” she explained. “I want people to watch this and not see me at all. Like, at all.”
Garner wore a wig, brown colored contacts, false teeth, a prosthetic nose, and thick glasses. Even her co-star Anthony Boyle was floored by her transformation. “I had to step up my game,” he said. “It was astonishing. No one actually recognized her. Not one person! I was just blown away. And she is arguably the most talented person in any room she’s in.”
That doesn’t mean that Garner doesn’t have moments of self-consciousness. “Every job I’m on, there always comes a point in the middle of shooting where I feel like I’m messing up,” she explained. “Like, I’m the worst actor. I feel like I stopped being good a few years ago. It’s like that on every job. So now I’m doing this radical acceptance, like, ‘Okay, the next job I’ll do, I’m probably gonna feel like that, and that’s okay….’”
