GB’s sprint stars were left with silver – after another stunning ride by the Dutch masters.

Ed Lowe, Hamish Turnbull and Jack Carlin knew they would have to pull off the shock of the track Games to take down Roy van den Berg, Jeffrey Hoogland and Harrie Lavreysen.

They gave it their all, too.

But these flying Dutchmen are super-human, incredible athletes, seemingly unbeatable.

By half way round the first of the three laps, the Dutch were 0.110 ahead, double that after one circuit.

It was more than half a second as Carlin was left with mission impossible against Hoogland.

And as the orange shirt crossed the line, the world record was smashed into pieces for the second time this evening.

Their time of  40.949 was 0.241 better than in the previous round.

GB’s 41.814 was superb. But simply no match.
