Where Does Tom Selleck Live? Let’s Explore the Blue Bloods Star’s Real Estate

Thomas Magnum, of Magnum, P.I., lived on Oahu—and for a time so did the mustachioed actor who brought him to life. But where does Tom Selleck live now? When the hit CBS series wrapped after eight seasons in 1988, Selleck bought a ranch in California’s Ventura County, among a few other SoCal properties. To this day, the Blue Bloods star calls that same 63-acre plot home. Below, we’re exploring Selleck’s real estate investments over the years.

Hawaii home

During the filming of Magnum, from 1980 until 1988, Selleck reportedly rented a one-bedroom guest cottage on a 5,000-square-foot plot of land in Honolulu. In 1993, he returned, buying the ocean-view property for an undisclosed sum and moving into its 1929-built two-bedroom main house. He maintained the Hawaiian hideaway until 2001, when he sold it for $2.48 million. As of 2020, a yacht mast gifted to Selleck by a friend who won the TransPacific Yacht Race still graced the property’s deck.

Los Angeles apartment

Though he mainly resided in Hawaii, Selleck needed a place to rest his head during weekend visits to Los Angeles. In 1984, he bought a one-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom condo on Wilshire Boulevard. Spanning 1,800 square feet, the unit was perched on the 16th floor. “I didn’t mind the high-rise aspect, but I did want it to look older, as though it’s been lived in. And I think it does,” Selleck told Architectural Digest during a 1988 home tour. To that end, he tapped designer James Blakeley III, who appointed the apartment with oak parquet floors, Persian carpets, and honey-hued pine paneled walls. “We had to hand-select the wood,” Selleck told AD. “I used a shipbuilder who’s done a lot of boat interiors. It took a few tries to get it right. At one point it was all painted black, but I prefer the lighter sort of country-funky look.” Selleck filled the space with antiques, Western gear, and duck decoys. Despite its Californian setting, Blakeley aptly referred to the finished interior as an “English gentleman’s town house retreat.”

In 1987, Selleck married English actress Jillie Mack, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Hannah, the following year. With his growing family and new, larger real estate investments under his belt, Selleck put the condo up for sale in 1990, asking $950,000. However, it’s unclear exactly when or for how much the unit ultimately changed hands.

Hidden Valley ranch

Fresh from filming the final season of Magnum in 1988, Selleck returned to the mainland, doubling down on properties in Los Angeles. Though the series had made him a star, he wanted to take a beat outside of the limelight. “I quit Magnum, not because I didn’t like it or I was tired of it,” he reflected in 2020. “I was tired from it. And I wanted a three-dimensional life because I didn’t have one.” Mainly, he wanted to focus on family.
