The Gold Coast Suns have unveiled their bold pink jerseys ahead of Gather Round in Adelaide this year – but opinions on the striking playing kit from footy fans are divided.
Damien Hardwick’s men will be the first-ever team in the sport to wear predominately pink in a match when they tackle North Melbourne at Barossa Park come April 12.
And the Suns have declared the jumper is part of a bid to ‘set new boundaries beyond those imposed on us in 2025’.
They weren’t finished yet, telling their social media followers the pink get-up pays tribute to ‘the quintessential pink skies of a Gold Coast sunrise’ before adding it reflects the evolution of the Gold Coast Suns, which is ‘modern, agile and unshackled from long-standing tradition.’
It is fair to say some supporters online didn’t share the same level of enthusiasm.
‘The things a professional footy player has to do, just to get a contract,’ said one bemused fan.

Another bluntly stated in response: ‘Nancy boys.’
A third weighed in with: ‘Pink pu**ies. No wonder you haven’t [ever] made finals.’
This was a brutal reference to the fact Gold Coast have never finished in the AFL top eight after they entered the competition in 2011.
Vice-captain Touk Miller said the Suns ‘want to be fearless, and in order to do that, we have to stand out.’
‘It Is different and no one else is doing what we are doing,’ he said.
‘We are trying to separate ourselves from the rest of the pack….and this is one way of doing just that.’
The feedback wasn’t all negative, with one fan feeling the pink jerseys are ‘ground breaking and stunning.’
Gold Coast open their 2025 AFL campaign when they host Essendon at Heritage Bank Stadium on March 8.
