A Toowoomba man who continued playing his late wife’s favourite lotto numbers has won $3.3million in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

The retiree held one of six division one winning tickets in draw 4571.

At first, Lottery officials struggled to contact the man as his registered phone number was disconnected.

When the retiree came forward after checking his ticket himself, he said he ‘could not believe’ his luck.

‘I’ve been playing Gold Lotto since it first started,’ he said.

‘The most I’ve ever won on a Gold Lotto ticket was $600, and I thought that was memorable.

‘I’m a widower. My late wife and I have a set of numbers that we used to play together.’

He said he has played his wife’s numbers ever since she passed away, but also threw in QuickPick numbers when a larger prize was on offer.

The man said he would get in touch with his financial advisor and likely share the win around

‘The only bummer is that she’s not here to celebrate the win with me. We used to play together,’ he said.

‘It would’ve been nice to share this moment with her, but she’s looking down on me.’

The winner said he would be in contact with his financial advisor before making any major decisions regarding the win.

‘I’ll probably share the win around a bit,’ he said.

His 12-game QuickPick entry was purchased at Campbell’s News & Casket in Toowoomba.

The winning numbers were 1, 35, 18, 25, 45 and 38, while the supplementary numbers were 4 and 16.

Across Australia, there were six division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4571 – three in New South Wales, two in Victoria and one in Queensland.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 402 so far in the financial year, including 104 won by Golden Casket customers.
