King George-winning owner Bryan Drew will have more horses in Ireland and France after becoming disillusioned with British racing blaming what he claimed was poor prize-money, a bloated fixture list and an increasingly malfunctioning economic model.
Drew’s orange silks are a familiar sight in the UK, with Bravemansgame carrying his colours to victory in the King George in 2022, while his most recent winner came last Friday when the Dan Skelton-trained Panic Attack landed a valuable mares’ handicap chase at Windsor.
He has had 46 winners in Britain since 2013 with half of them being trained by David Pipe and the rest shared among Dan Skelton, Paul Nicholls, Harry Derham, Warren Greatrex and Sophie Leech. He put a horse in training with Willie Mullins last season and explained why his silks will be seen more often on Irish courses in future.
