WILLIAMSBURG — The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation announced it is now accepting applications for $20,000 in grant funding to support programs that expand access to outdoor recreation along the Virginia Capital Trail.
Funding through the Capital Trail Outdoor Equity Fund supports programs that connect more people and communities to nature and the outdoors, according to the foundation. Priority consideration is given to programs that increase equitable access for BIPOC communities, tribes, low-income neighborhoods, and individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities.
“Opportunity for outdoor recreation is essential for building vibrant and healthy communities,” shares Cat Anthony, executive director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. “We are incredibly grateful to Dominion Energy and Bon Secours for their support in helping expand access to outdoor programs that inspire connection, wellness, and exploration across our communities.”
Grant applications must be submitted online by Aug. 14. Eligible applicants include certified nonprofit organizations, as well as state, local, regional, tribal, educational or government entities, according to the foundation. Approved funding will range between $1,000 and $5,000 for program and operating expenses.
Established in 2021, the Capital Trail Outdoor Equity Fund has awarded over $90,000 for recreational programs that promote outdoor opportunities in connection with the Virginia Capital Trail, a 52-mile paved multi-use trail stretching from Williamsburg to Richmond.
