I’m Elliot, I’m 16 and I’ve just finished back-to-back work experiences in Stacey Dooley’s Nine To Five.
I’m a pro at this.
The one key skill I’ve learned is communication.
“What have you got planned in London?” “What do you think we should do?”
“Selfridges or Harrods. You’re treated like royalty there.”
Communication means listening to other people. Them taking on your ideas and you taking on theirs.
During the war, it brought out the best in a lot of people.Thinking about others instead of themselves all the time.”
“I think that’s what I need to do.” “Yes.”
Communication doesn’t mean just setting up a group chat.”
I mean, I did keep talking about what my outfits were going to be, me and Skye kept giggling.”
“I wasn’t sticking to task.”
“Would you give me a pay rise?” “We’ll have a discussion later about that one I think.” “That’s a no then innit?”
“I think right at this moment it seems as if it’s about Elliot then about the job and the customer.”
“Sorry.”
Throughout me doing my work experience, I did learn a lot that things aren’t always about me.
“Do you have a full UK license?
“Professional.” “Thank you.”
Communication is about knowing what’s expected of you and what you should be doing.
“Ollie I need help.” “Where do these go?” “Do these go round to them men?” “Yeah so, take them ones round to the fella’s round there. Alright.” “Alright.”
Communication is about sharing your information.
“Perfect, I think you’re ready to plant, Betty. That’s it.”
“We’re good friends.” “We are, we’re very good friends. You’ve taught me a lot today Betty.”
I did learn to realise that they just wanted me to do my job.
“And Elliot’s took this job on board a lot better than yesterday.” “I agree.”
“He’s concentrating, he knows exactly what to do.”
Remember it’s all about communication.
“WOO!”
