US President Donald Trump has said on Monday that there is “communication” with the North Korea leader Kim Jong-un and that his administration will do something about the Kim’s regime “at some point”, news agency Yonhap reported.

As speculation rose about Trump’s direct diplomatic talks with Kin Jong-un which he conducted during his first tenure in 2018, it resulted in three in-person meetings between the leaders from 2018 to 2019.

In a remark during a press briefing, Trump stated about North Korea that “We have a great relationship, and yeah, we have…there is communication,” while responding to the question of when does he plan to reach out to Kim.

Trump called North Korea’s Kim Jong-un a “smart guy” and depicted North Korea as a “big nuclear nation”.

The US president recalled his meeting with Kim in June 2019, when he crossed the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea at Kim’s invitation.

“(I) got to know him very well. I remember I put my foot across the line, and then I walked across the line. I will probably do something at some point,” Trump added.

After Trump took office in January for the second time, he had said that he would reach out to Kim Jong-un again after holding talks with him during his first tenure.

Trump and North Korean leader Kim held three meetings until now, with first happening in Singapore in June 2018, second meeting held in Hanoi in February 2019, while the third meeting took place in the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom in June 2019.
