John Abraham recalls how he clinched the top title in a modeling competition, judged by Pathaan co-star Shah Rukh Khan, alongside Gauri Khan and Karan Johar.

John Abraham, who is gearing up for his upcoming film Vedaa, recently bared it all on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast. The actor took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling his post-MBA days when he raked in just Rs 6,500 as a media planner. He also shared how he clinched the top title in a modeling competition, judged by none other than his Pathaan co-star Shah Rukh Khan, alongside Gauri Khan and Karan Johar.

John recalled that the model hunt winning amount was considered a big paycheck at that time. “After MBA my salary was Rs 6,500. I started from there. I was a media planner. Then I got offered to take part in the Gladrags competition and my judges were Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, Karan Kapoor. I won that competition and I got Rs 40,000. It’s like a full circle. That was a huge amount of money for me. My take home salary at that time was Rs 11,500,” he recalled.

John revealed that his salary was mostly spent on minimal expenses. Lunch would cost Rs 6 and included 2 chapatis and dal fry. “My expenses were very less. My lunch would cost Rs 6 and I would have 2 chapatis and dal fry this was in 1999. I would skip dinner as I would be working late in the office. My expenses including petrol for my bike, I didn’t have a mobile, I had a train pass and the little food I had, that’s all. I used to save my money and invest in equity based mutual funds. That’s where my career started,” he said.

Besides John Abraham, Vedaa will also star Abhishek Banerjee and Sharvari Wagh in a key role. Tamannaah Bhatia will also feature in the movie. Vedaa is scheduled to hit theatres on August 15, 2024. It will clash at the box office with Rajkummar Rao and Tamannaah Bhatia’s Stree 2.
