According to the latest AMFI data, Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs) witnessed a sharp rise in investor participation in June, with net inflows surging 171% month-on-month to Rs. 3,782 crore from Rs. 1,396 crore in May.

The category’s average assets under management (AAUM) also increased 21.75% to Rs. 16,050 crore from Rs. 13,182 crore, reflecting growing acceptance of the newly introduced investment vehicle.

Hybrid strategies continue to dominate SIF inflows

Hybrid investment strategies continued to dominate the SIF landscape, attracting Rs. 2,685 crore during the month and accounting for more than 71% of total inflows. This represents a 261% jump from Rs. 744 crore mobilized in May.

Supported by robust inflows, the segment’s AAUM rose 19% to Rs. 11,523 crore, accounting for nearly 72% of the industry’s total SIF assets.

Within the segment, hybrid long-short funds remained the largest strategy, garnering Rs. 2,042 crore in June, up 189% from Rs. 707 crore in May. The strategy also retained its position as the largest SIF category by assets, with AAUM rising 14% to Rs. 10,771 crore.

Active Asset Allocator Funds see biggest jump in inflows

The standout performer during the month was the active asset allocator long-short fund strategy. Inflows surged to Rs. 643 crore from just Rs. 37 crore in May, translating into a 1,648% month-on-month increase, the highest among all SIF strategies.

Its AAUM more than tripled to Rs. 752 crore from Rs. 246 crore, registering a 205% increase over the previous month.

Equity strategies continue to gain traction

Equity-oriented investment strategies also posted healthy growth. Total inflows into the segment increased 68% to Rs. 1,097 crore in June from Rs. 652 crore in May, while AAUM rose 29% to Rs. 4,527 crore.

Among equity strategies, equity ex-top 100 long-short funds attracted the highest inflows at Rs. 753 crore, compared with Rs. 178 crore in May. The strategy also became the largest equity-oriented SIF category by assets, with AAUM increasing to Rs. 2,391 crore from Rs. 1,879 crore.

Equity long-short funds, meanwhile, witnessed a moderation in inflows, which declined 24% to Rs. 333 crore from Rs. 440 crore. Despite lower net subscriptions, the strategy’s AAUM rose 29% to Rs. 2,096 crore from Rs. 1,622 crore.

Sector rotation long-short funds remained the smallest strategy in the SIF universe. The category received inflows of Rs. 11 crore during the month, down 69% from Rs. 34 crore in May. However, its AAUM more than doubled to Rs. 40 crore from around Rs. 18 crore in the previous month, albeit on a low base.

SIFs continue to gather momentum

The June data indicates that investor interest in SIFs continues to deepen. Hybrid strategies remain the preferred choice, while newer offerings such as Active Asset Allocator Long-Short Funds are witnessing rapid traction. With AAUM now exceeding Rs. 16,000 crore, SIFs are steadily carving out a larger role in India’s investment landscape.
