Damascus, July 27 (SANA) Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar met on Monday with Jan Sechter, First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and his accompanying economic and diplomatic delegation, to discuss prospects for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries and expanding investment partnerships.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, addressed ways to open new areas for bilateral cooperation and encourage Czech companies to participate in reconstruction and early recovery projects, particularly in industry, energy and infrastructure sectors, to strengthen economic partnership between the two countries and open broader horizons for future cooperation, according to the ministry statement.
Al-Shaar stressed that Syria is entering a new economic phase based on openness and creating an attractive and stable investment environment, noting that achieving sustainable development requires building effective international partnerships and strengthening cooperation with investors and global companies.
The meeting was attended by Anita Grimolová, Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Czech Foreign Ministry, along with representatives of the Czech Embassy in Damascus and a number of officials from the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
The Czech Republic has historically maintained diplomatic and economic relations with Syria. Czech companies have previously been active in Syria’s industrial and infrastructure sectors. The meeting reflects growing European interest in Syria’s reconstruction following the fall of the deposed regime and the lifting of sanctions, with Czech firms exploring opportunities in infrastructure, energy and industrial projects.
