Voters Have Mixed Views on Modernity and Think Life in the U.S. Is Getting Worse

Takeaways

Broadly, these findings indicate that voters largely think life in the U.S. is getting worse, and they are most worried about the cost of living and division in our society. Voters also have a mixed view of modernity, finding some trends to be negative and others to be positive. While majorities of voters think that economic growth, the global integration of our economy, multiculturalism, and modern technology have been positive developments, majorities also express negativity toward certain changes in our lifestyles, including increased time spent indoors, the decline in religion, and increased consumption of medications, technology, and material goods.

Despite these misgivings, a majority of voters say they find meaning in their lives, jobs, and communities.
