Elizabeth Warren Accuses Trump Of Profiting While His Administration Shapes Crypto Policy: ‘The President Shouldn’t Be Getting Rich’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) renewed her attack on President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency interests Thursday, arguing that his wealth is tied to an industry his administration is reshaping.

Warren Targets Trump’s Growing Crypto Wealth

“Trump owns ~$1 billion in cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, his administration shapes crypto policy. The President shouldn’t be getting rich off his own policy decisions,” Warren wrote on X.

Don’t Miss:

Warren did not explain how she calculated the roughly $1 billion figure. Trump’s 2025 financial disclosure showed his companies generated more than $1.4 billion from crypto ventures, including more than $520 million from World Liberty Financial token sales and over $635 million from Official Trump memecoin royalties.

The filing showed Trump retained 15.75 billion World Liberty governance tokens valued above $50 million, while Trump-affiliated companies held as much as $160 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum at the end of 2025.

Trump has defended the earnings. “There’s nothing illegal, there’s nothing wrong with it,” he said in July.

Benzinga reached out to the White House for comment on Warren’s comments but did not receive an immediate response.

Watchdog Says Investors Lost Billions

Warren’s latest criticism coincided with a Public Citizen report estimating investors in Trump-linked crypto products are at least $4.7 billion underwater while Trump made at least $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025. The watchdog stressed most losses remain unrealized.

Public Citizen estimated $3.2 billion in losses tied to the TRUMP memecoin, at least $1 billion involving World Liberty’s WLFI token and about $450 million in paper losses on Trump Media and Technology Group Corp.‘s Bitcoin holdings.

Crypto Policy Fuels Conflict Questions

The policy backdrop has sharpened Warren’s criticism. Trump last week hosted cryptocurrency executives at the White House and urged Congress to pass a “fair version” of the Clarity Act, which would establish clearer federal rules for digital assets. Reuters reported his administration has also implemented federal stablecoin rules while scaling back some Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission crypto enforcement.

The White House has previously rejected conflict-of-interest allegations. Spokesperson Anna Kelly told Reuters in June, “Neither the President nor his family has ever engaged — or will ever engage — in conflicts of interest,” adding Trump made the U.S. “the crypto capital of the world.”

Warren, who recently called Trump’s $1.4 billion crypto windfall a “scam”, has pressed for ethics safeguards preventing senior officials from profiting from industries they help regulate.

Building Wealth Across More Than Just the Market

Building a resilient portfolio means thinking beyond a single asset or market trend. Economic cycles shift, sectors rise and fall, and no one investment performs well in every environment. That’s why many investors look to diversify with platforms that provide access to real estate, fixed-income opportunities, precious metals, and even self-directed retirement accounts. By spreading exposure across multiple asset classes, it becomes easier to manage risk, capture steady returns, and create long-term wealth that isn’t tied to the fortunes of just one company or industry.

Arrived

Backed by Jeff Bezos, Arrived Homes makes real estate investing accessible with a low barrier to entry. Investors can buy fractional shares of single-family rentals and vacation homes starting with as little as $100. This allows everyday investors to diversify into real estate, collect rental income, and build long-term wealth without needing to manage properties directly.

Qnetic

As electricity demand rises alongside AI, data centers, and renewable energy, long-duration energy storage is becoming increasingly important. Qnetic is developing a kinetic energy storage system designed to provide long-lasting, chemical-free electricity storage, offering investors exposure to the infrastructure supporting a more resilient and reliable power grid.

EquityMultiple

For accredited investors looking beyond stocks and bonds, EquityMultiple provides access to vetted commercial real estate deals starting at $5,000, with only ~5% of opportunities passing their due diligence process.

FarmTogether

Farmland has historically held its value through market volatility and delivered returns uncorrelated to stocks and bonds. For accredited investors, FarmTogether offers direct access to high-quality U.S. farmland starting at $15,000 — fully managed, with no landlord headaches.

Fundrise

Private real estate and private credit can add income and stability to a stock-heavy portfolio. Fundrise offers access to diversified private real estate and credit strategies through an easy-to-use platform, with professionally managed portfolios designed to generate passive income and long-term growth.
