NVIDIA Appoints Savannah Goodman as Global Lead of Energy & Infrastructure Sustainability

  • Leadership: NVIDIA has appointed Savannah Goodman as Global Lead of Energy & Infrastructure Sustainability following six years at Google.
  • Energy focus: Goodman will work on clean energy procurement, data centre flexibility and closer integration between AI infrastructure and power grids.
  • Climate stakes: The appointment comes as NVIDIA confronts the growing energy demands of AI while targeting a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 operational emissions by 2030.

NVIDIA has appointed Savannah Goodman as its new Global Lead of Energy & Infrastructure Sustainability, bringing an experienced energy executive into a role shaped by the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.

Goodman joins NVIDIA after six years at Google, where she most recently served as Head of Energy Products. Her new remit sits at the intersection of AI infrastructure, electricity systems and sustainability.

The appointment comes as data centre growth raises questions about grid capacity, clean energy supply and the environmental footprint of artificial intelligence.

From Google to NVIDIA

Goodman began her sustainability career in 2011 as a Manufacturing Sustainability Intern at Kraft Foods. She later held internships at San Diego Gas & Electric, Beta Engineering and NRG Energy.

She joined Tesla in 2016 as a Powerpack Analyst before moving into product management. Her work included collaborating with engineering teams on product design and system controls.

Goodman then spent more than two years at Blueprint Power across product, markets, modelling and simulation functions.

In 2020, she joined Google as Energy Data and Software Lead. She later became Senior Manager for Data and Software Climate Solutions and then Head of Advanced Energy Labs. In April 2026, she was appointed Head of Energy Products.

Goodman said on LinkedIn: “After six years at Google, I’ve started a new role as Global Lead for Energy & Infrastructure Sustainability at NVIDIA.” She added: “At NVIDIA, I’m excited to take on a fairly wonky question whose stakes keep getting bigger: how can data centers help the power system work better, instead of only asking it for more?”

AI growth puts energy systems in focus

NVIDIA’s sustainability strategy centres on improving energy efficiency through accelerated computing. The company produces GPUs and AI infrastructure used across data centres, gaming and automotive applications.

Product use accounts for most of NVIDIA’s carbon footprint. As a result, the company prioritises computing performance per watt alongside efforts to reduce its operational emissions.

NVIDIA aims to match 100% of its global facility electricity consumption with renewable energy. It also targets a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 operational emissions by 2030.

As a fabless semiconductor company, NVIDIA also depends heavily on manufacturing partners. Its sustainability strategy includes working with suppliers on science-based targets, recycled materials and packaging optimisation.

The broader challenge is becoming harder as AI infrastructure expands.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in the company’s FY26 report: “We are living in a historic moment. The era of AI has arrived – and with it, a new industrial revolution is underway. AI is not weightless. It may feel digital, but it is deeply physical. Every token is produced by real systems: energy, chips, cooling, networking, software, supply chains and people. As AI becomes essential infrastructure, we have a responsibility to build it efficiently, deploy it responsibly and use it to solve important problems.”

Data centres as grid partners

Goodman’s appointment puts grid integration at the centre of NVIDIA’s sustainability work. Her focus will include bringing more clean energy online and increasing flexibility across data centre operations.

She said: “As AI infrastructure scales, I’ll be focused on bringing more clean energy online, making data centers more flexible, and showing up as a real partner to the grid and local communities. NVIDIA’s culture of moving fast and bringing intellectual honesty to hard problems makes it an especially exciting place to do that work.”

For executives and investors, the issue extends beyond corporate emissions targets. AI growth increasingly depends on access to reliable electricity, transmission infrastructure and viable relationships with utilities and communities.

That makes energy strategy a material infrastructure and business risk for technology companies. It also places data centre operators under greater scrutiny over how new demand affects grids and local energy costs.

Goodman’s remit reflects that changing landscape. As AI becomes a larger source of electricity demand globally, the sector’s ability to pair expansion with clean generation and grid flexibility will increasingly shape its climate impact and capacity for growth.
