Launched in 2012, the scheme is run by the Youth Sport Trust and rewards schools for building competition in school and the wider community.
Headteacher Mrs Mitcherson welcomed the award and praised the school’s sporting achievements over the past year.
The academy has performed strongly in local inter-school leagues, particularly in football and athletics.
New extracurricular clubs also boosted pupils’ participation in sport and physical activity.
Student sports leaders were trained to officiate and organise transition games for primary schools and internal competitions.
An inclusive sports initiative opened up non-traditional sports and gave every student the chance to represent the academy.
This year, 400 students competed in local inter-school competitions.
The school had to meet criteria covering participation, competition, its workforce and clubs to apply for the award.
Special thanks was given to head of PE Jon Chappell, the PE staff and the students.
Ridgeway plans to apply for the award again in 2027.
More than 30 Hertfordshire schools have received support to open sports facilities beyond the normal school day, including during evenings, weekends and holidays.
