Western Australia-based construction company ADENCO says it has completed a design and construct project for Northern Star Resources at its KCGM Operations, delivering upgrades to water infrastructure as part of the KCGM Mill Expansion Project.
ADENCO, an RSK company, completed upgrades to the Kaltails and Gidji borefields. The work included modifications to 33 bores across both sites, transfer piping upgrades to saline dam pump stations and booster stations, new flow monitoring stations and the partial demolition of existing infrastructure.
The company self-performed the civil, mechanical and electrical works. The bores were installed using its custom-designed and manufactured bore installation rig, which enables the safe installation and retrieval of downhole pumps using a wireless handheld control unit, it explains.
The project was delivered in collaboration with RSK company Binnies Australia, which led the detailed design and provided on-site commissioning support.
ADENCO Managing Director, Christoff van der Schyff, said the project came as the company expanded its Western Australian operations. Its workforce in the state recently reached more than 250. He commented: “This project demonstrated our ability to successfully deliver design and construct solutions to the market using our in-house team.”
ADENCO combines on-site experience with technical support from the wider RSK Group to deliver work at complex and remote sites. Previous projects include the installation of 60 km of HDPE pipeline, new pit dewatering systems, power and instrumentation systems at Rio Tinto’s West Angelas Deposits C and D, and the construction of the Zulu 6 in-pit tailings storage facility for Roy Hill, including a decant pipeline, instrumentation and bulk earthworks.
Christoff said: “Our ability to deliver tailored solutions such as custom HDPE piping, water transfer systems and complex mine site infrastructure in demanding and remote environments has cemented our reputation as a trusted delivery partner for major resource and infrastructure projects.
“A key part of that success is our approach to developing people. New employees begin by gaining an understanding of our systems and processes before transitioning into site-based roles, where they develop practical experience alongside our project teams.
“That hands-on exposure is invaluable, particularly in some of Western Australia’s most remote mining operations, where adaptability, problem-solving and rapid decision-making are essential.”
The KCGM project has been completed as ADENCO delivers several other major projects, including BHP’s Western Ridge NPI Go-Line Project. ADENCO’s scope covers site-wide infrastructure across three work packages, including MEM workshops, bus drop-off zones, LV and HV standpipes, wastewater systems, firewater and potable water infrastructure, communications, services and associated testing and commissioning. The company will also fabricate the structural steel at its Perth workshop.
Christoff said the KCGM project reflected ADENCO’s capability across water management, civil construction, electrical and instrumentation works, fabrication and project delivery from design to commissioning and ongoing site support.
“Every project is an opportunity to push our capability further. Successful completion of the upgrades for Northern Star shows exactly how we combine hands-on know-how with the resources of a global group.”
