Bengals trading for Dexter Lawrence puts Bills in difficult position for NFL Draft

Last night, Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Giants were trading their star defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence, to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the 10th overall pick. Lawrence and the Giants had been having troubles figuring out a new contract and instead of reaching a resolution, Lawrence is heading to the AFC North.

With the Bengals acquiring Lawrence, the Buffalo Bills saw them get stronger and they could give the Bills even more trouble than they have in recent memory.

Even though the Bengals traded their first round pick for Lawrence, it was a very smart move on their end because this draft class is one of the weaker ones in recent history. While Cincinnati would have been able to draft a Top 10 talent, Lawrence is already a proven playmaker who can help the Bengals’ run-defense immediately.

Now that Cincinnati is gaining a star player, they have indirectly just put the Bills in a tough spot ahead of this coming week’s NFL Draft.

Bengals acquiring Dexter Lawrence just put Bills in tough NFL Draft predicament

With Buffalo needing a ton of help on defense and with limited draft picks (and not having a second round pick), the Bengals acquiring Lawrence may now change draft plans for other teams that could end up leaving the Bills short on what they had planned.

There are a lot of teams that need help on defense, including Buffalo. Now there is a possibility that Buffalo could see a lot of their top prospects go off the board before the Bills land on the clock. If that does indeed happen, maybe fans will see Buffalo trade out of the first round (which isn’t a bad idea).

With not having an early first round pick and not having a second round pick at all, the Bills might be in the toughest predicament out of any team in this draft. They still have Super Bowl aspirations, but yet they have a good amount of roster holes to fill. They don’t have the ability to try and trade up early in the draft, and who knows what the offered compensation would be if they are willing to trade back.

Overall, the Lawrence trade to the Bengals may have just thrown a wrench in the Bills’ draft plans. Soon, fans will find out what Buffalo will do and what prospects they will bring in for the future as the Joe Brady era at head coach kicks off in 2026.
