Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme 2026 / 2027

The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme provides funding for the development of new and existing outdoor recreational infrastructure in rural areas. The Minister for Rural Community Development and Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has launched the 2026/27 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The 2026/2027 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) will see the development of natural amenities such as Ireland’s mountains, lakes, beaches, bogs, walkways, greenways and blueways.
Mayo County Council are now seeking expressions of interest under Measures 1, 2, 3 and the Project Development Measure.

Project Development Measure (PDM):
This measure will provide funding for the detailed development of projects which would enable them to reach a standard (be shovel ready) for application under future round of ORIS. Such work might encompass detailed design, screenings, preparation for planning and / or procurement, appropriate assessment, ecological surveys etc.
The total grant amount under PDM is €100,000 (for up to 4 projects)
Measure 1
Grant amount up to €40,000 for small scale repair / development / promotion and marketing.
Measure 2
Grant amount up to €200,000 for medium scale repair / maintenance / upgrade and new strategic trail / amenity development
Measure 3
Grant amount up to €500,000 for strategic large- scale repair/upgrade and new strategic trail/amenity development
As set out in the scheme details, projects with evidence of strong community engagement will be prioritised.
As in previous years, the scheme does not include sporting activities which take place in the countryside on confined courses or pitches specifically designed and constructed for those events e.g., golf, football, show jumping or motorised activities such as quads/scramblers.
