Marqeta has partnered with digital asset infrastructure provider zerohash to enable its customers to launch stablecoin-enabled card programmes, as demand grows for blockchain-based payment capabilities within traditional financial services.

The partnership will integrate zerohash’s stablecoin infrastructure into Marqeta’s card issuing platform, allowing businesses to incorporate stablecoin payments into existing or new card products without building their own digital asset infrastructure or managing additional regulatory complexity.

Cardholders will be able to spend stablecoin balances using payment cards at merchants worldwide, while merchants continue to receive settlement in fiat currency through existing payment networks.

The collaboration comes as stablecoins continue to gain momentum as a payment mechanism. According to zerohash, monthly stablecoin transaction volume reached $7.2tn in February 2026, surpassing the US Automated Clearing House (ACH) network’s monthly volume of $6.8tn for the first time. The company also reported that transaction volume across its platform increased by 690% year over year during 2025, while transaction frequency rose by 208%, reflecting growing adoption across payments and financial services.

Under the agreement, zerohash will provide the underlying infrastructure supporting custody, compliance, liquidity and settlement for stablecoin transactions, while Marqeta will continue to manage card issuing, banking relationships and card network connectivity. Together, the companies aim to provide enterprises with a simpler route to launching stablecoin-backed card programmes capable of supporting real-time settlement and cross-border payments.

Marqeta provides card issuing technology that enables businesses to embed financial services into their products, processing nearly $400bn in payments volume during 2025 across more than 40 countries. zerohash delivers API-based infrastructure for stablecoins, cryptocurrencies and tokenised assets, operating regulated entities across 51 US jurisdictions and holding regulatory permissions across Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Bermuda.

Marqeta interim chief product officer Anthony Peculic said, “Our customers are building the next generation of financial products, and that requires new ways to manage and move money. By integrating with zerohash, we will be able to give our customers a full solution to deliver multinational and stablecoin-backed card programs that meet the needs of their users, while also being compliant and ready for global scale.”

zerohash founder and CEO Edward Woodford added, “Compatibility between stablecoins and traditional payment networks is a critical unlock for users’ onchain money, while also opening new opportunities for traditional businesses through stablecoin-backed cards. zerohash’s role is to abstract the complexity behind the scenes so stablecoins can be leveraged as a seamless part of everyday payments and money movement.”
