Sky and NFTS team up to launch new routes into screen careers

Sky has today announced a new apprenticeship programme, with applications opening today, giving two aspiring creatives the chance to get behind the scenes at one of the UK’s leading entertainment broadcasters. The programme, beginning in January 2027, combines paid, hands-on experience with expert training across Sky Entertainment.

Delivered in partnership with the National Film and Television School (NFTS), the scheme is designed to open up new routes into the film and television industry, giving emerging production talent the opportunity to learn from industry experts and see first-hand what it takes to create and deliver world-class content to audiences.

Two apprentices will join Sky Entertainment through the Level 4 Junior Production Coordinator Apprenticeship, which is being funded in partnership with Publicis Media’s APX Content Ventures. Alongside working on real projects, they’ll gain valuable industry experience, develop their skills and work towards a nationally recognised qualification, helping them take their first steps towards a career in the creative industries. Applications are open from today and can be made through the NFTS website.

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Chief Executive Officer, Sky Studios and Chief Content Officer, Sky, said: “At Sky, we know the difference that access, opportunity and real-world experience can make to someone’s career. We want people from all backgrounds to see a future for themselves in our industry, have the opportunity to succeed, and help ensure our industry continues to thrive. That’s why we’re delighted to open these opportunities today.”

Secretary of State for the Department for Work and Pensions, Pat McFadden, said: “Every young person deserves the opportunity to build a career they’re passionate about, and Sky’s new apprenticeship scheme will help turn that ambition into reality.
Earlier this year I met with film and TV executives who were clear that we need to open up more routes into the creative industries, and by combining paid experience with on-the-job training this scheme does exactly that. Our £2.5 billion youth employment support will open up opportunities across every sector, but we need employers to play their part, and I encourage others to follow Sky’s example.”

The new programme builds on Sky’s wider collaboration with the National Film and Television School. This month, a new cohort will begin their training as part of the Sky Post Production Apprenticeship, with applications for next year’s intake opening in October. Together, these programmes form part of Sky’s long-standing commitment to opening doors into the creative industries. Since 2012, Sky Up Academy has reached nearly 360,000 young people, helping them discover their creative potential and explore careers in media, while Sky’s wider early careers programmes continue to provide routes into roles across content, production and post-production.
