LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – First-graders in Lisbon learned about economics by creating their own doughnut shop in school.
The students have been studying goods and services and learning about local businesses, but their teachers wanted to make it a more hands-on lesson, so they came up with the idea to have the kids start their own doughnut shop.
“It’s so awesome just to see them get excited about it. You know you’re up there teaching and you’re just hoping that they’re getting what you’re saying. But when they have to go and apply the concepts that they’re learning, that’s wonderful to see as a teacher,” said first-grade teacher Karly Rudibaugh.
The students took a vote on icing and sprinkle combinations and even came up with “donut dollars” for their customers to use for their purchases.
