WASHINGTON (TND) — Economists are sounding the alarm when it comes to unemployed Americans.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that as of March there were 31 million immigrants that joined the workforce.
Economist and author Steve Moore highlighted that this is one of the positive affects about legal immigration.
“That fact that immigrants are much more likely to be working. We want people in the workforce,” said Moore. “When they come here, it should be to get a job and contribute to our economy, which they are doing.”
When it comes to illegal immigration, other economists believe immigrants in the workforce drive down wages.
Part of Wednesday’s interview with Moore on The National Desk touched on the 7% increase for part-time jobs, despite full-time jobs going down.
“You got a lot of Americans that want a full time job right now and they just can’t find it,” added Moore.
