A new five-year plan has been set in motion to grow the economy, support businesses, and boost jobs.

The Economic Development Strategy, approved by New Forest District Council (NFDC), aims to attract investment while protecting the unique character of the New Forest.

Councillor Derek Tipp, portfolio holder for planning and economy, said: “This is about turning ambition into action for the New Forest.

“We want to create an economy where local people can build successful careers, where businesses feel supported to grow, and where investment brings real benefits to our communities.”

The strategy targets key sectors such as tourism, marine and ports, and green technology, and aims to create higher-value jobs while strengthening town centres.

Councillor Tipp said: “We are building on what makes the New Forest special, while making sure we are ready to seize new opportunities and meet the challenges ahead with confidence.”

Collaboration with regional partners, including the Solent Freeport, will be central to unlocking investment and supporting regeneration.

The strategy has been developed in the context of planned changes to council structures across Hampshire due in 2028, ensuring the New Forest is prepared to secure funding and support communities through the transition.

The council will now begin delivering the strategy to support residents and businesses.
