The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) said it is closely monitoring the implementation of key infrastructure projects across Africa, with road projects in Nigeria, Togo and Madagascar recording significant levels of completion.
The Fund, in a statement, said the “Minna-Bida” Road Project in Niger state has attained 45 per cent completion, while the rehabilitation of the “Sokodé-Bassar” Road in Togo has reached 92 per cent. Road infrastructure development works in Madagascar stand at 80 per cent.
ADFD said the projects reflect its commitment to ensuring continuity of implementation in line with approved frameworks, while supporting infrastructure development and improving living standards in partner countries.
According to the Fund, the progress recorded across the projects demonstrates sustained advancement on the ground and aligns with its mandate to support sustainable economic and social growth in beneficiary countries through effective deployment of resources and international best practices.
Director General of ADFD, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, said the organisation remained focused on monitoring development projects to ensure they are delivered efficiently and according to approved timelines.
“At ADFD, we are committed to continuously monitoring the progress across our development projects to ensure their efficient and high-quality implementation in accordance with approved timelines. This approach enables us to keep pace with on-ground developments and enhances project readiness to achieve their intended objectives.
“Our efforts reflect the Fund’s mission to support partner countries in developing their infrastructure and stimulating economic growth, reinforcing ADFD’s role as an extension of the UAE’s vision in creating sustainable development impact that benefits communities and enhances quality of life,” he said.
In Nigeria, ADFD said the Minna-Bida Road Project represents its first development project in the country. The project, financed with AED165 million (about N61.6billion), involves the construction of an 82-kilometre road linking Minna, the Niger State capital, with Bida.
The Fund said the project, which has reached 45 per cent completion, is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities by 50 per cent and cut vehicle operating costs by 31 per cent, while improving transport efficiency and boosting economic activities between major cities.
In Togo, the rehabilitation of the Sokodé-Bassar Road is nearing completion with a 92 per cent achievement rate. The project involves the rehabilitation of a 62-kilometre road, construction of rainwater and flood protection infrastructure, as well as consultancy and supervision services.
ADFD said the project would improve connectivity between the capital, Lomé, inland regions and neighbouring countries, while reducing transportation costs and improving road safety. The project is being financed by the Fund with about AED37 million (about N13.8 billion).
In Madagascar, the Fund is overseeing the construction of a 117-kilometre dual-lane road and seven new bridges. With an 80 per cent completion rate, the project is expected to improve connectivity between rural communities, ease traffic movement and reduce transportation costs for goods and passengers.
The Fund noted that the project would also improve access to healthcare and social services, while supporting agriculture, industry and tourism. It is being financed through a concessional loan exceeding N41 billion.
ADFD stated that the progress achieved across the three projects highlights its commitment to serving as a strategic development partner through close supervision of implementation stages to ensure sustainable and measurable outcomes.
