Cyclist takes on Land’s End to John o’Groats challenge for Dylan Rich charity

A local man is preparing to cycle from Land’s End to John o’Groats in support of the Dylan Rich Legacy Fund.

Mark Pearson has been planning to take on the LEJOG challenge for a few years and has decided that this is the year to do it. His route will see him travel by van from Nottingham to Land’s End, before cycling to John o’Groats and then returning to Nottingham.

The challenge will involve around 1,000 miles on the bike and 900 miles in the van, with the aim of completing it all within 21 days.

He has chosen to raise funds for the Dylan Rich Legacy Fund, a local charity set up in memory of Dylan Rich, who played for West Bridgford Colts. Having coached at Colts for many years, the charity is close to his heart.

Dylan died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while playing football for Colts in West Bridgford. He was just 17 years old.

The fundraiser said he believes grassroots football is an amazing provision for young people in Nottinghamshire and across the country, giving them the opportunity to exercise, learn how to be part of a team, and enjoy values such as positivity, inclusivity, fun and physical activity.

The Dylan Rich Legacy Fund aims to improve access to sport and physical activity, especially where there are barriers to participation. It also supports nature conservancy and sustainable employment for local people in Kenya.

The fundraiser said he would be massively grateful for any support people can provide.
