We’re back at one of our favorite quick-service spots in Animal Kingdom — Flame Tree Barbecue!
There are SO many good things on this menu, like the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork, Black Garlic, Truffle, and Parmesan Fries, and, of course, the Key Lime Pie Pop. But today, we’re not here for any of those — we actually came for the Korean Barbecue Sandwich, and we’re sharing ALL of our thoughts!
The Korean Barbecue Sandwich is a plant-based item featuring Impossible® Beef with Pickled Vegetables, Gochujang Mayonnaise, and Cilantro served on a Sourdough Baguette with French Fries, and you can grab this for $12.49. This is actually the ONLY plant-based item you can find on the menu.
We found this sandwich to have a mix of Korean and Vietnamese flavors, specifically similar to the bánh mì sandwich. The ingredients lay between a sourdough baguette that was soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. It was soft enough where it didn’t hurt our mouths while trying to get a bite, but sturdy enough where it didn’t become soggy from all of the ingredients.
The cilantro and mayonnaise came with a little bit of spice that mirrored the type of kick you’d get from a sriracha sauce.
The “meat” filling seemed like it was mixed with vegetables, similar to a meatloaf, but it was ground very finely, thinly sliced, and seasoned to create the effect of a typical Korean barbecue dish.
We LOVED the pickled vegetables, specifically the pickled red onions, because they added a fresh element that elevated this sandwich so much more. All of these components worked incredibly well together, and we’d definitely come back to get this again!
The sandwich was served with a side of French fries, but we actually would have preferred something lighter — like chips or a salad — because the sandwich is already on the heavier side. The fries themselves were great — it’s your typical Disney World French fry — but we definitely would have rather had a side of chips.
We actually think this is an upgrade over the plant-based Burnt Ends that were here for years and a very popular option for plant-based eaters coming to Disney World. However, we still prefer the Chili-Spiced Crispy Fried Tofu Bowl over at Satu’li Canteen, which we think might be one of the plant-based dishes in all of Disney World. But depending on what flavors you feel like eating, the Korean Barbecue Sandwich is a great option!
