Weymouth property company DJ Property has bought the freehold of the Booker wholesale premises at Granby Trading Estate.
The 23,500 sq ft building, on Cumberland Drive, will remain occupied by Booker under its existing lease. Booker is part of the Tesco Group.
DJ Property said the deal was completed off-market, with the property acquired from a private vendor represented by Goldenberg Real Estate. Financial details have not been disclosed.
The purchase expands DJ Property’s holdings at Granby Trading Estate, a major employment site in South Dorset covering more than 30 acres.
The Booker building stands at one end of the estate’s main route, facing Chickerell Road. At the opposite end, DJ Property bought Waverley House and Fleet House last year, in a deal involving about 5.32 acres of commercial property.
Mickey Jones, chief executive of DJ Property, said the company wanted to continue investing in commercial premises serving businesses in Weymouth and the wider South Dorset area.
He said: “This acquisition is an excellent fit for DJ Property and strengthens our position at the Granby Trading Estate, where we have extensive existing interests.
“As a local property company, we recognise the important role that commercial premises play in the local economy.
“For many years, the estate has been an important employment location for Weymouth and South Dorset, supporting a wide range of local and national businesses, and we are proud of the role we have played in the estate’s development.
“Providing businesses with somewhere to establish themselves, grow and employ people locally is an important part of what we do. As DJ Property continues to grow, we want that investment to continue to benefit the wider South Dorset economy.”
DJ Property, which has been operating in South Dorset for more than 60 years, said it now owns and manages more than 500,000 sq ft of property.
Its development track record includes Link Park in Chickerell, where it developed more than 70,000 sq ft of purpose-built commercial space across a 10-acre site, and a further 23 commercial units at Oxford Court.
DJ Property said the acquisition shows continued confidence in the Weymouth and south Dorset business community, as the company pursues further acquisition and development opportunities and continues to invest in the area for the long term.
