Olivia Rodrigo fights the scalpers, as Ticketmaster cancels batch of tickets that breached sale terms

Ticketmaster has canceled a batch of tickets to Olivia Rodrigo‘s The Unraveled Tour and is putting them back on sale to fans at their original prices.

Ticketmaster says the canceled tickets violated the purchase terms attached to the on-sale.

That violation appears to have involved the attempted resale of the tickets at increased prices on the secondary market.

Ticketmaster announced the move on Thursday (August 20) in a post on Instagram.

Recovered tickets “are ticket purchases that broke the rules of the sales and are being released directly back to fans, at the original prices set by the tour,” Ticketmaster said in the Instagram post.

“A small portion of tickets that had been identified as violating ticket purchase terms were cancelled,” Ticketmaster said on its help page for the tour.

“Our focus is ensuring those tickets are reissued directly to fans,” said the page, which did not disclose how many Unraveled Tour tickets had been canceled.

Fans had to apply for the resold seats through a request window that closed on Friday (August 21) at 11:59pm ET, according to Ticketmaster.

“These tickets were previously cancelled because the seller violated Ticketmaster‘s terms of use and now are being re-released for fans to purchase,” the help page said.

Fans who did not already have tickets are being prioritized, Ticketmaster said, with remaining requests to be randomized and filled according to availability and the seating preferences selected.

Requests were capped at four tickets per event, for up to two events per country, across separate US and Canada request pages.

Applicants whose requests can be filled will hear on or before Friday (August 28), at which point their card will be charged, with Ticketmaster stating that all sales are final.

A separate release of Silver Star tickets for Rodrigo’s shows opens for requests on September 1 at 3pm ET, priced at USD $25 per ticket, according to Ticketmaster‘s announcement.

Rodrigo introduced the program on her GUTS World Tour, where the tickets were USD $20 each, sold only in pairs, with a maximum of two per purchase.

Buyers are not told where their Silver Star seats are until they collect the tickets at the venue box office on the day of the show.

The Unraveled Tour, in support of Rodrigo‘s album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, opens on September 25 at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut.

It runs across North America, Europe and the UK into 2027.

This is not the first time Ticketmaster has moved against scalpers on a Rodrigo on-sale.

During the 2023 on-sale for her GUTS World Tour, the company withheld tickets until 72 hours before each show and issued them electronically only.

“Delivery delays are commonly used by artists to allow for a thorough review of the sale and to ensure all ticket purchasers have adhered to ticket limits and terms,” a Ticketmaster spokesperson told Good Morning America at the time.

The clawback also follows the template Ticketmaster and its owner, Live Nation, applied to the Oasis reunion tour.

In October 2024, promoters Live Nation and SJM said they planned to cancel more than 50,000 tickets for the band’s UK shows that had surfaced on unauthorized resale platforms, as previously reported by MBW.

Those tickets were to be redistributed through Ticketmaster at their original face value.

“These terms and conditions were successfully put in place to take action against secondary ticketing companies reselling tickets for huge profit,” a spokesperson for Live Nation and SJM told the BBC at the time.

The following February, Ticketmaster began canceling further Oasis tickets that it said had been bought using bots.

“Any tickets that have been identified to have been purchased by bots will be refunded, as this violates the tour’s terms and conditions,” Ticketmaster said in a refunds FAQ published at the time.

Some Oasis ticket-holders said their orders had been canceled in error, and Ticketmaster gave affected buyers a form to put to the tour’s promoters for review.

The Rodrigo release arrives with Live Nation and Ticketmaster under scrutiny in the US over their handling of resale.

The Federal Trade Commission and seven states sued the two companies in September 2025, accusing them of profiting from scalpers who bought tickets beyond posted limits.

In a separate antitrust case, a federal jury in Manhattan found in April 2026 that Live Nation and Ticketmaster had operated an illegal monopoly that overcharged ticket buyers.

The case was filed by the US Department of Justice and dozens of states in 2024.

The DOJ settled a week into the trial, and 33 states and the District of Columbia pressed on to a verdict.

Live Nation and Ticketmaster are seeking to undo that verdict, asking the court either to enter judgment in their favor as a matter of law or to grant a new trial.

US District Judge Arun Subramanian has yet to rule on either motion, and the April 15 verdict stands while he considers them.

“The jury’s verdict is not the last word on this matter,” Live Nation said in a statement issued after the verdict. “Pending motions will determine whether the liability and damages rulings stand.”Music Business Worldwide
