Bain Capital Private Credit Invests $6 Billion Across 58 Companies In First Half Of 2026

Bain Capital’s Private Credit Group invested approximately $6 billion during the first half of 2026 to support middle-market and private equity-backed companies, marking one of the group’s most active investment periods in recent years.

The Private Credit Group completed 58 investments during the six-month period, supporting refinancings, leveraged buyouts and add-on acquisitions across new and existing portfolio companies. Of those investments, 34 involved new platforms.

Bain Capital also closed more than $2.2 billion of new capital for investment during the first half, adding to the capital available for its private credit strategy.

The group deployed capital across a range of structures, including senior secured debt, unsecured debt, preferred equity and common equity.

Bain Capital served as the majority lender on approximately 72% of its new commitments, highlighting the scale of its participation in individual financings rather than relying primarily on smaller syndicated positions.

The weighted average EBITDA of portfolio companies associated with the activity was approximately $56 million.

Bain Capital also invested more than $200 million of junior capital across multiple new platforms during the first half.

The firm’s Private Credit Group focuses on businesses with EBITDA generally ranging from $10 million to $150 million across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

As of June 30, 2026, the group managed approximately $24 billion of capital.

Over more than 25 years of middle-market private debt investing, Bain Capital’s Private Credit Group has invested more than $39 billion across 644 portfolio companies.

Its current diversified portfolio includes more than 273 middle-market businesses.

The activity reflects continued demand for private credit as sponsors and middle-market companies seek financing alternatives for acquisitions, refinancing transactions and growth initiatives.

Bain Capital said its ability to provide capital across debt and equity structures allows the firm to pursue opportunities where borrowers require more customized financing packages.

The group also emphasized selectivity and credit discipline despite elevated deployment during the first half.

Bain Capital overall manages approximately $225 billion in assets across Private Equity, Growth & Venture, Capital Solutions, Credit and Real Assets, with more than 2,000 employees across 24 offices on four continents.

KEY QUOTE:

“The first half of the year was one of our most active investment periods in recent years, as we were able to effectively capitalize on a compelling market environment for experienced lenders with stable capital to partner with sponsors looking to help their portfolio companies return to growth mode.”

“At the same time, our global platform has remained disciplined and highly selective in investing capital, enabling us to thoughtfully target a broad and diversified opportunity set across industry sectors. We believe our long heritage, deep relationships, and extensive expertise in the core middle market continues to position us favorably in the current market.”

Michael Ewald, Partner And Global Head Of The Private Credit Group At Bain Capital
