People: Matt Koskinen Now MD at Bain Capital Real Estate

Former Blackstone executive Matt Koskinen has taken up his new role as a managing director with Bain Capital’s real estate strategy for Australia and New Zealand with that change leading this week’s look at personnel moves from around Asia Pacific’s real estate industry. Also making the list is a new Vietnam chief executive at CapitaLand Development and the planned departure of HSBC’s group chief financial officer, Pam Kaur.

Matt Koskinen - BainMatt Koskinen - BainMatt Koskinen has taken up his role as managing director leading Bain Capital‘s real estate strategy in Australia and New Zealand, according to his LinkedIn profile. The hire confirms a move first reported by the Australian Financial Review last October, when Koskinen was said to be departing Blackstone, where he spent eight and a half years as managing director. He earlier worked in real estate investment banking at Goldman Sachs, real estate equity research at Macquarie Group, and real estate asset management at abrdn, across Toronto and Sydney.

Tze Wooi Tan - CapitaLand Development VietnamTze Wooi Tan - CapitaLand Development VietnamCapitaLand Development has named Tze Wooi Tan as chief executive of its Vietnam business, according to a LinkedIn update. Tan moves from group chief risk officer at CapitaLand Investment, a role he took on last year after nearly eight years as chief executive of CapitaLand China Trust Management. He joined the group in 2005 in retail roles across CapitaRetail China Trust and CapitaMalls Asia, and earlier worked in real estate banking at Standard Chartered Bank. CapitaLand Development’s Vietnam portfolio spans Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where it recently acquired a S$1 billion mixed-use site near Ho Chi Minh City.

Pam Kaur - HSBCPam Kaur - HSBCHSBC has announced that group chief financial officer Pam Kaur will step down and leave the board by the bank’s 2027 annual meeting, according to a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. Kaur, who has been with HSBC since 2013 across internal audit, risk and compliance, and finance roles, became group CFO two years ago. She will move into an advisory role supporting chief executive Georges Elhedery through 2028 to help ensure a smooth transition. The board has begun a search for her successor. HSBC is Hong Kong’s largest lender, with $32 billion of commercial real estate loans in the territory.

Ben Tse - PrudentialBen Tse - PrudentialPrudential Hong Kong has hired Ben Tse as director for private asset investment, according to his LinkedIn profile. Tse spent more than five years at reinsurer Peak Re, most recently as senior vice president leading alternative investments across private credit, real estate, private equity and infrastructure, after two years as an associate director for Asia Pacific at student housing operator GSA. He earlier spent three years at Savills Investment Management in Hong Kong, rising from vice president to associate director.

Gaurav Jain - Tata RealtyGaurav Jain - Tata RealtyTata Realty and Infrastructure has named Gaurav Jain as managing director and chief executive effective 1 October, according to a statement posted on X. Jain, whose role includes managing also Tata Housing Development, succeeds Sanjay Dutt, who steps down after eight years leading the developer, which last year launched a $670 million office park joint venture with CPP Investments. Jain joins Tata from Aditya Birla Group’s Birla Estates, where he has been deputy chief executive since 2024. He earlier held sales and P&L leadership roles at Godrej Properties, Mahindra Lifespace Developers and Unitech Group.

Central China Real Estate‘s chief executive, Yang Mingyao, has resigned effective 4 September, citing family reasons and a wish to devote more time to other business commitments, according to a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. Yang joined the developer as vice president in 2018, rose to general manager of operations in 2020 and became chief executive in February 2022. He holds a master’s degree from Wuhan University and a bachelor’s degree from Henan University of Economics and Law. The board, chaired by Wu Po Sum, thanked Yang for his contribution and said it is searching for a successor.

Chris Chong - Sun Hung Kai PropertiesChris Chong - Sun Hung Kai PropertiesSun Hung Kai Properties has hired Chris Chong as head of retail management strategy and luxury brands, according to a LinkedIn announcement. Chong joins from LVMH, where he spent two years as group president for South and Southeast Asia and Oceania. He earlier spent more than six years as chief executive of retail and workspace at CapitaLand, sitting on the boards of Jewel Changi Airport and ION Orchard, where CapitaLand sold its half-stake to CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust last year.  

Mark Suchy - DesmosMark Suchy - DesmosDesmos has hired Mark Suchy as senior advisor for real estate and debt advisory, based in Bangkok, according to a LinkedIn announcement. Suchy moves from Core Capital Asia, the Shanghai investment advisory boutique he launched in 2016 after more than a decade with international real estate consultancies in the city. He earlier led China investment teams at Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE, where he helped arrange Greenland Group’s outbound acquisitions in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, and started his China career at Colliers International. Suchy has more than 23 years of experience in Asian real estate and capital markets.
