Mona McSharry continued her strong preparations for the summer’s major international competitions with silver and bronze medal performances at the prestigious Sette Colli meeting in Rome.

The Olympic medallist produced a composed display in the 100m Breaststroke final at the Foro Italico, touching the wall in 1:06.30 to claim second place on Friday evening.

The Grange native had entered the final as the leading qualifier after setting the pace in the morning heats with a time of 1:06.53, but she was edged out in the final by Italy’s Benedetta Pilato, who claimed victory in 1:05.85.

McSharry was at it again on Saturday evening adding bronze in the 50m breaststroke. She touched in 30.66, behind Italy’s Benedetta Pilato (30.00) and Lisa Angiolini (30.49).

The Sligo swimmer is among a 24-strong Irish squad competing in Rome as the team fine-tunes preparations ahead of the Commonwealth Games and European Championships later this summer.
