The private equity specialist has joined the firm from Goodwin – Media statement below

LONDON, 11 June 2026: Morgan Lewis continues to expand its European corporate platform with the appointment of Gemma Roberts in London. She will join from Goodwin where she was previously co-chair of the London office.

Gemma will serve as Morgan Lewis’s European private equity practice lead which marks another significant step in the firm’s strategic expansion of its integrated European M&A and private capital practice, following the recent addition of Philip Cheveley from Covington & Burling as European M&A practice lead. Together, these appointments reinforce the firm’s commitment to building a premier European and cross-border transactional platform for sponsors, investors, and companies operating across key markets.

“Private equity sponsors continue to pursue increasingly sophisticated and cross-border investment strategies across Europe and beyond,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Gemma is widely recognized for her market-leading private equity practice advising sponsors and companies on transformative transactions and brings a strong combination of market insight, leadership, and international transactional experience. Her experience advising across the full spectrum of sponsor-backed transactions will be invaluable as clients navigate an increasingly dynamic investment environment.”

Gemma advises private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, founders, and management teams on leveraged buyouts, growth equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions across industries including technology, software, financial services, business services, and consumer products.  She is particularly known for her work on complex cross-border transactions, private equity-backed growth strategies, and corporate reorganizations. Well-connected across the London and broader European private equity markets, Gemma regularly advises on transactions spanning multiple jurisdictions, including in Germany and France.

“Clients increasingly seek advisers who can combine sophisticated private equity capabilities with seamless transactional support across jurisdictions, industries, and complex investment structures,” said Christina Melendi, leader of Morgan Lewis’s global corporate and business transactions practice. “Gemma’s appointment as European private equity practice lead, alongside Philip’s recent arrival as European M&A practice lead, brings together two key pillars of our European transactional strategy and further strengthens our leadership bench in London and across Europe as we continue to expand our private equity and M&A presence across the region.”

“We continue to invest in London as a cornerstone of our European corporate platform and a critical hub for advising clients pursuing cross-border transactions and strategic investments,” said Nick Bolter, managing partner of the London office. “Gemma’s leadership, strategic approach, market standing, and experience advising sponsors and portfolio companies throughout the investment lifecycle further strengthen our private capital capabilities in Europe and complement our broader M&A, finance, tax, regulatory, and investment management offerings.”

Morgan Lewis’s M&A and private equity practices support clients on their most important and complex strategic transactions across industries and geographies, working across 33 offices in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to deliver seamless cross-border execution and practical solutions across the full spectrum of corporate and transactional matters.

Gemma’s industry leadership, deep sponsor relationships, and extensive cross-border  experience complement recent additions that have expanded the firm’s corporate practice in London and Europe, including Philip Cheveley and Luciana Griebel in London, Dana Anagnostou, Sébastien Pontillo, and Alexandre Omaggio as part of 54-strong lawyer team in Paris, and Sebastian Dexheimer in Germany.
