After spending time pursuing separate creative paths, Silver Cup never truly disappeared. The chemistry between Logan James Hope and Hadley Nelson simply waited for the right moment to return. That moment arrived with STILL SILVER, an EP born from unfinished demos, renewed confidence and a shared commitment to making music that felt unmistakably like Silver Cup.
The project wasn’t initially meant to become a full release. Nelson says the duo originally planned to revisit two demos they never had the chance to put out before the band’s hiatus. “We initially just wanted to release two old demos we never got to put out before the hiatus,” she says. “A couple years later, we still loved them and wanted people to hear them.”
Then everything clicked into place. “Two more demos honestly just wrote themselves,” Nelson says. “They came together so quickly and fit perfectly with the older songs. At that point, the EP happened almost immediately. It was extremely natural and unforced, which is how we knew it was good and meant to be.”
For Hope, there wasn’t one defining moment when the project became an EP. Instead, it began with a push from Nelson after he had finished his solo record. “Hadley was basically like, ‘You need to get back on the bike.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to get back on the bike.’ She said, ‘Just get on it.’ Then I got on, and suddenly we were riding tandem. That’s kind of the record.”
Time apart also changed how both artists viewed the band itself. “I think it’s authenticity,” Hope says. “Hadley and I both had time away to figure out who we were individually, and we came back much more confident in that. Silver Cup has always moved around genres, but somehow it still sounds like us.”
That confidence shaped the creative process from the start. Rather than chasing trends or reinventing themselves, the duo focused on staying true to the band’s identity. “True, honest Silver Cup,” Nelson says. “That was really it.”
She even considered releasing “SHALLOWS” as a solo HADS track before realizing it belonged with the band. “We both knew deep down it was Silver Cup. It just sounds like a Silver Cup song.”
She describes “POOR BABY” as perhaps the band’s defining track. “It’s undeniably fun, pop-forward, full of harmonies and has this pure, quirky energy. We wanted the whole project to feel like that.”
The biggest difference this time wasn’t a new sound but a new mindset. Without outside expectations or deadlines, Silver Cup found freedom in simply creating. “Honestly, the experiment was having no pressure,” Hope says. “No A&R. No agent. No tour we had to do. No delivery. No trend to follow.”
Instead, the goal became making something unmistakably their own. “Just make a record,” he says. “Make it so Hadley and Logan that it’s undeniable.”
For a band that has always blurred the lines between alt-pop and electronic music, STILL SILVER doesn’t reinvent Silver Cup. Instead, it captures two artists returning to the project with greater confidence, trusting the creative partnership that made the band feel like home in the first place.
