The prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states convened on Friday in Belarus for a meeting of the organization’s Intergovernmental Council.
The meeting, hosted in Minsk, commenced in a narrow format and later expanded with the participation of the prime ministers of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as the chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took part via videoconference, while Uzbekistan’s prime minister, as well as Cuba and Iran’s ambassadors to Belarus were in attendance as representatives of observer states.
The meeting reviewed issues regarding Eurasian economic integration, including trade, customs administration, transport infrastructure, industrial cooperation and the formation of common energy markets, according to an EAEU statement.
The heads of government reviewed issues concerning the development of transport infrastructure along the East-West and North-South transport corridors, including “within the framework of alignment with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.”
“The heads of government were briefed on the development of electronic document management systems at maritime checkpoints of EAEU member states,” the union said.
The council also amended the list of priority integration infrastructure projects in the transport sector for EAEU members to develop the Nevel–Dno–Luga–Gatchina railway corridor in northwestern Russia.
“The Council also approved a package of decisions regarding the formation of a common electricity market,” the statement said, adding that the next meeting will take place in Moscow in December.
