Sligo teenager Lucie Cawley won a brilliant silver medal for Ireland in Saturday morning’s final of the women’s 2000 metres steeplechase at the European Under-18 Athletics Championships in Italy.
The 16-year-old produced a stunning run clocking 6:36.22, which took almost five seconds off her existing Irish U18 record for the event.
She spoke to Athletics Ireland shortly after her final run.
Cawley’s Sligo AC clubmate, Ava Colreavy, goes in the final of the women’s 3000m in Rieti on Sunday.
Both girls are coached by well-known Sligo coach Dermot McDermott.
