Weil strengthens secondaries bench with Kirkland lateral

Weil has hired Kirkland partner Charles Cooper-Isow in London, bolstering its private equity practice with a focus on secondaries.

Cooper-Isow advises sponsors and portfolio companies on liquidity solutions, including GP-led continuation funds, preferred equity investments and LP portfolio transactions.

Secondaries focus

The hire comes as demand for secondaries continues to rise, with sponsors increasingly turning to structured liquidity options to manage portfolios.

“We are thrilled that Charlie is joining Weil’s secondaries platform as we continue to advise clients in meeting the rising demand for liquidity and in the active management of their portfolios,” said Weil executive partner Barry Wolf.

Platform build-out

Weil has been building out its secondaries capability across key markets. In London, the firm previously re-hired Simon Saitowitz from Ropes & Gray, while in January it added partner Corey Dietrich in New York from Proskauer.

“Weil’s cross-border secondaries platform is growing rapidly with innovative lawyers like Charlie strengthening our best-in-class private capital platform,” said corporate chair Michael J. Aiello.

The hire comes against a backdrop of Weil partner moves in London. Sullivan & Cromwell recruited finance partner Jenny Choi and senior finance partners Chris McLaughlin and Alastair McVeigh, while Sidley hired a trio of funds partners last year including Weil’s former London private funds head Ed Gander.
