UAE-based travel marketplace Wego has introduced stablecoin payments, allowing travellers to pay for flights and travel bookings using digital currencies.
The payment option has been launched through a partnership with global payment institution Triple-A. Travellers can complete bookings using supported stablecoins and cryptocurrencies, while Wego continues to receive settlement in traditional local currencies.
The move is designed to improve payment flexibility for cross-border bookings, particularly in markets where card access is limited or international transactions may face higher decline rates.
Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego, said: “Travel is inherently global, but the payment experience does not always reflect that. By enabling digital currency payments, we are giving travellers more flexibility in how they pay for flights and travel services.”

Stablecoins are digital currencies typically pegged to traditional assets such as the US dollar, allowing users to transfer value through blockchain networks while avoiding the price volatility associated with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. They are increasingly being used for cross-border payments because of faster settlement times and lower transaction costs.
The travel sector has emerged as one of the more active areas for crypto payment adoption because of the volume of cross-border transactions and foreign exchange costs linked to international bookings. Earlier this year, Trip.com also introduced stablecoin payments for global travel bookings, allowing customers to pay for flights and hotels using digital currencies including USDT and USDC.
Dubai has continued positioning itself as a global crypto and digital assets hub through regulatory frameworks overseen by the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), while regional travel companies increasingly expand fintech and digital payment integrations.
Emirates recently signed a preliminary agreement with Crypto.com to explore crypto payment solutions, while Air Arabia too has previously introduced AE Coin payments through the AEC Wallet app for flight bookings in the UAE.
