The federal government’s ‘nudge unit’ celebrated 10 years of operations this week, with reflections and cake.
The Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) was established in 2016 in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) by then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Since then, BETA has conducted more than 150 randomised controlled policy trials and taught more than 15,000 APS employees about behavioural insights in policy design.
Founding director of BETA and Harvard Professor Michael Hiscox returned to PM&C’s offices in Canberra for the occasion.
