The Department of Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE) is delighted to welcome Anne Nelson Stoner as a new instructor beginning Spring 2026. Stoner will teach CDAE 3730: Project Development & Planning, a course that explores how effective project management supports equitable and sustainable development across public, private, and nonprofit settings.

Stoner brings extensive experience in urban planning, equity, and community engagement. She currently serves as the Equity, Outreach & Engagement Manager at the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC), where she leads projects that integrate equity into planning policy, community engagement, and organizational decision-making. Her work bridges municipal planning, regional coordination, and community-based collaboration, and she has also supported statewide climate resilience and public engagement initiatives through the Consensus Building Institute.

In CDAE 3730, students will examine the full project lifecycle—from analyzing community needs and defining goals to managing schedules, budgets, and evaluation systems. Alongside technical tools such as Gantt charts, logic models, and monitoring frameworks, the course emphasizes leadership, facilitation, and collaboration as essential components of effective, equitable project management.

This course is particularly well suited for students in the Community-Centered Design major, the Community and International Development major, and the Green Building and Community Design minor. Students with questions about how this course fits into their degree program are encouraged to contact their academic advisor or meet with a member of the CDAE Student Success Team.
