OHIO (WTRF) — Education, health care, the environment, and the economy are some of the issues considered top priorities for Americans in 2024.
That’s according to a recent poll conducted by The Associated Press, National Opinion Research Center.
As part of the survey, Americans ages 18 and over were asked what problems facing the country and the world should take priority in 2024.
According to the poll, Foreign Policy Issues topped the public’s agenda. That was followed closely by economic issues.
Kevin Spiker, Associate Professor of Political Science at Ohio University Eastern, feels the threat of American involvement in foreign wars contributes heavily to the results.
When there is a direct American involvment, say for example, in the 2004 Presidential Election, when the war in Iraq was still going on. When service men and women were still dying. These were American soldiers. In Ukraine we don’t have that. We don’t have that in Isreal. But my hunch is.. It’s a hunch…is that the number are being driven by a potential fear of direct American involvment. Or that these wars escalate.

Other topics that ranked high on the survey included climate change and education, including student loans.
